Obesity is a treatable disease that is a worldwide health concern associated with having an excess amount of body fat. It is caused by genetic and environmental factors and can be difficult to control through dieting alone. Obesity is diagnosed by a healthcare provider and is usually classified through BMI. Although Obesity affects more adults than children in the U.S., I am personally interested in Childhood Obesity. In a survey done in the years 2015-2016, it shows that 1 in 5 school age children in the United States has obesity (CDC, 2019). Childhood obesity is particularly difficult because the extra pounds often start children on the path to other health problems that were once considered adult problems.
